Helping Paws Fund

Meet Benjamin—Ben, as we lovingly call him—one of our special residents at the ranch.

Age: ~7 years old Breed: Dachshund/Beagle mix Intake: December 20, 2022 Condition: Hindquarter partial paralysis

Benjamin—our sweet Ben—didn’t have much of a chance when he was found on the streets of St. Louis. He was paralyzed. He was severely underweight, with a body condition score of 3—his ribs and hip bones visible, his body weak from muscle loss. And he was heartworm positive. His future looked incredibly bleak.

But Ben is still here—because someone chose to care.

Today, Ben has come so far. His heartworm treatment is complete, and his body condition is now healthy. He’s stronger, brighter, and still fighting every day. What remains is his partial paralysis. Ben has feeling in his abdomen and part of his hind legs, and his veterinarian believes that—with continued therapy—walking as a tripod could be in his future. But he can’t get there alone. Physical therapy is key to Ben’s progress—and without support, we cannot continue the care he needs.

Ben’s Ongoing Needs

And beyond basic care, Ben’s physical therapy ($735) is what gives him the chance to walk again.
