Johnny
Johnny was born at the ranch in early January of 2018. At the time of his birth he weighed 28 pounds. Being a Texas Longhorn, his birth weight should have been close to 100 pounds. Randy rescued him from frozen field at the ranch when he realized his mom had walked away and had no interest in caring for him. He was very sick and required several trips to the University of Missouri Veterinarian School for his care. At that time, he was so small, he could fit in the floorboard of a Jeep.
When the ranch celebrated his 1st birthday, he weighed in at a whopping 478 pounds. Johnny has been hand raised. In the first year he was walked many times by volunteers around the ranch on a leash or tied out by the lake while Randy, staff and volunteers were fishing. Johnny does not realize he is a steer since he was raised from day one by humans. Due to a compromised immune system Johnny and his brother Carlos have their own pasture area to share located near the other ranch longhorns. Johnny is a permanent resident of the ranch.
