The Rescue of Sugar Pie and Honey Bunch

June 9, 2023 - No matter how many times we see it, the horror of what we see in kill pens never gets easier. A couple months ago we learned of a mother and her new born baby in a kill pen down in Louisiana. Mom was starving to death and struggling to feed her new born baby girl, giving her everything she had to keep her alive, while dying herself. This mare is only 6 years old and someone discarded her like she was nothing. She is literally a bag of bones. We had to move quickly to raise the funds to pay the kill pen owners, and also find a partner down in LA to pull them on the day they were scheduled to be destroyed. Thankfully, our amazing rescue family stepped up and we were able to secure the funds and a way to get them to safety. Our (now named) Sugar Pie and Honey Bunch spent several weeks in quarantine with a Louisiana horse rescue, receiving critical vet care, food and attention so that they could be healthy enough to make the transport to the ranch.

Our new ranch residents finally arrived at the end of May. Even though they had received great care with the previous rescue, mom still has a long journey ahead of her and we are grateful we were able to save her and her baby so that they may receive the care and love they need, and the opportunity for the long life and love they deserve.

Kill pens are a terrible reality, and seeing animals like Sugar Pie and Honey Bunch just left to die because someone no longer wanted them is a horrible truth. If kill pens bother you like they do us, we have to help these animals - please donate so we can continue these life saving efforts.
